About Astellas:

At Astellas, we believe that nurturing exceptional relationships with our employees delivers exceptional business results. Everyone at Astellas has a responsibility for creating a brighter future for patients around the world. From the first moment, Astellas will inspire you to put this ethos into practice – with a positive, agile company culture and with well-defined ethical principles, values, and systems

Astellas’ Global Capability Centres – Overview

Astellas’ Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are strategically located sites that give Astellas the ability to access talent across various functions in the value chain and to co-locate core capabilities that are currently dispersed. Our three GCCs are located in India, Poland and Mexico.

The GCCs will enhance our operational efficiency, resilience and innovation potential, enabling a timely response to changing business demands.

Our GCCs are an integral part of Astellas, guided by our shared values and behaviors, and are critical enablers of the company’s strategic priorities, sustainable growth, and commitment to turn innovative science into VALUE for patients.

Purpose and Scope:

The Behavioral Science Consortium (BSC) investigates how psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors shape behaviors and health outcomes. By collaborating with global experts in disciplines such as psychology, anthropology, sociology, and behavioral economics, the BSC generates insights that inform practical, patient-centric solutions – this will allow for enhanced efficiency and delivery of solutions that are meaningful to patients and adhere to our code of conduct and improve care delivery.

The Assistant Director, BSC, will support the integration of these insights into Astellas’ patient-centric strategies. This role will collaborate with internal teams – including Medical, Commercial, and other Regional and Global Business Units – to help explore and apply behavioral science findings that improve patient and caregiver experiences and outcomes.

The Assistant Director will contribute to research and project-based work by coordinating with external experts, supporting the development of behavioral science-informed insights, and helping translate those insights into practical tools and resources. The role will also assist in aligning BSC offerings with those of other Patient Centricity teams to ensure a cohesive and complementary approach across the organization

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal Astellas teams (e.g., Medical, Commercial, Regional and Global Business Units) to support the integration of behavioral science insights into strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the BSC Faculty (external academic experts) to apply concepts from behavioral economics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and related disciplines to real-world healthcare challenges.
  • Assist in the development of behavioral science-informed research questions and contribute to the design and execution of project-based work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct and synthesize secondary research (e.g., literature reviews) to inform internal decision-making and support the development of patient-, caregiver-, and provider-centered insights.
  • Support the development of educational content and resources (e.g., curriculum, workshops) that build internal capabilities in behavioral science.
  • Help translate behavioral science insights into practical tools and resources that address specific patient needs.
  • Assist in the development of research instruments (e.g., surveys, interview guides) and support qualitative or thematic data analysis.
  • Coordinate project logistics and timelines across matrixed teams, ensuring effective communication and alignment with stakeholders.

The Assistant Director will support the execution of project-based work and contribute to curriculum development and delivery. Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Quality and timeliness of project coordination and execution
  • Clarity and usefulness of research summaries and deliverables
  • Number and complexity of projects and educational resources supported
  • Impact of insights on internal decision-making

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a behavioral or social science discipline (e.g., behavioral economics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, public health, applied behavioral science).
  • Demonstrated interest in applying behavioral science to real-world health challenges.
  • Ability to independently conduct and synthesize secondary research (e.g., literature reviews) on short timelines (4–6 weeks).
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to non-academic audiences.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across diverse teams and build consensus.
  • Strategic thinking and operational coordination skills.
  • High level of empathy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, iteration, and experimentation.
  • Fluent in written and spoken business English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in consulting, behavioral science, or patient-facing work (e.g., healthcare delivery, non-profit, commercial, or brand management)
  • Experience with design thinking or human-centered design
  • Experience presenting behavioral science work to non-academic audiences
  • International or cross-cultural experience
