The University of Pennsylvania’s Master of Behavioral and Decision Sciences (MBDS) program equips students with theoretical and practical tools to address a variety of challenges, giving them an edge in a fast-growing field of practice. The program is informed by contemporary theories and research methods from diverse fields, such as behavioral economics, decision sciences, network analysis, and public policy.

Our renowned faculty includes some of the University of Pennsylvania’s most celebrated scholars, who double as accomplished practitioners. Foremost among them is MBDS Founding Director Cristina Bicchieri, a world authority on social norms. Guided by these thought and field leaders, students learn to apply interdisciplinary perspectives to solve real-world problems across industries and sectors—for example, in social and public policy, law, education, business, economics, and medicine.

MBDS students also benefit from the program’s network of outstanding industry and research partners. We collaborate with influential organizations to bring students exceptional networking and professional development opportunities, including internships, design challenges, and other employer-driven projects. Additionally, MBDS students are part of the vibrant intellectual community at Penn and can pursue independent, cross-disciplinary research at over a dozen schools, centers, and institutions across the University.
